Pregnancy week by week: Week 40

It’s finally here! You’ve reached your due date!

Ding! All done!

There’s really not much to say about your baby’s development this week, because your baby is all done and ready to meet the world!

Your due date is here! 🎉

This is it, the moment you’ve waited 9 months for – your due date has arrived!

But the thing about babies is… they’re ready to come out when they’re ready to come out. Even though your baby is technically done growing, that doesn’t mean he or she is ready to leave the comfort of your belly just yet. Actually, only about 5% of women give birth precisely on their due date – but 50-60% of all children are born between weeks 39-41, so even if it doesn’t happen this week, statistics say it will happen next week.

In fact, if you’re a first-time mom, statistics say it’s even more likely that you’ll go into week 41 before giving birth. But we know, we know… this information doesn’t make the waiting time any less frustrating or uncomfortable.

Give yourself a final pampering session.

You don’t have to leave the house to get some pampering – you can do it yourself at home! Enjoy your last time alone with your best cremes, soaps and scented candles; this kind of alone time will be hard to come by once the baby’s here.

Make a delicious mocktail and enjoy a relaxing foot soak; if you have the skills, you can give yourself a manicure while your feet soak. Ensure you have fresh fruits and snacks at arm’s length so you don’t have to get up. Use all your favourite soaps and a hair mask in the shower, or take a soak in the bathtub if you have one.

In short, put on some great music, relax and enjoy your little spa session!
